Glimmer vs editing a stream by hand
Where a first cut saves time, and where you still want a full editor.
Updated 2 November 2026
In short: Glimmer gives you a first cut to correct. A full editor is better for effects, colour and motion graphics, and you can send the Glimmer timeline there.
| Task | By hand in an editor | With Glimmer |
|---|---|---|
| Finding moments | Watch or scrub the whole VOD | A scored list; each clip shows why it was picked |
| Cutting | Place every cut yourself | Cuts land in speech pauses, never mid-word |
| Subtitles | Type them or import a file | Generated on your PC, then edit and style |
| Vertical shorts | Reframe and caption each clip | Reels cut from the clips already found, with cam layout and captions |
| Effects, colour, motion graphics | Full control | Not a full editor: export XML or EDL and finish in Premiere or DaVinci |
When is editing by hand better?
For a single hero video you will polish for hours, or when the effects matter more than the pick of moments. Glimmer is for the other case: hours of stream every week and no evening to spare.
